The Role
Overall, I found the internship very enjoyable. There was a lot of varied work and I had opportunities to spend time with many different departments and set up time with any team I found interesting. The internship was fairly well organised with webinars throughout. I would recommend the internship to other students.
My colleagues gave me meaningful work throughout the internship (especially towards the end of the ten weeks) that made me feel like I was really helping out the company. There were however times were colleagues did not reply to my emails or did not follow through with promises of work they said they would give me (even after being chased up)
From what I've gathered from other interns this seems to vary a lot depending on who your line manager is. That said, my line manager was very good with this and set up weekly catch ups to see what I was doing and ask if I needed any help with anything. We also received graduate mentors who were always at hand to help with any questions/problems we had.
I was often not quite as busy as I would have liked. I wasn't given too much work and often had to go out and seek work from other teams. While this did often keep me busy most days I found that even after asking for us much work as I could, there were some days where I found myself at a loss for things to do.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility. I was tasked with leading on some smaller tasks such as creating customer feedback analysis and got to provide support on some larger tasks. I never felt that my work was ignored or that I wasn't trusted to perform any tasks asked of me.
I developed a lot of skills during my time here. This ranges from quite basic office skills such as how to communicate in an office to advanced uses of Excel and Powerpoint. I learnt a lot about how to sell my personal brand and ensure I am an attractive candidate to employers.
The Company
The atmosphere was one of the parts of the internship I enjoyed most. I have again heard that this varies a lot by location but the office here in Edinburgh was always very chilled and friendly. It never felt too busy and everyone was always happy to stop and have a chat.
Overall, the internship was fairly well set up. Some other interns did experience issues with things such as being told the wrong office to go to. We had a good induction event in London that was well organised and eased us into the internship well. I did find that while I was placed in the division I wanted, I wasn't really in a team that went well with my skillset.
We received a few webinars and had to complete the Professional Banker Qualification but that was it.

To my knowledge, around 70% of interns get referred onto the graduate scheme and are not required to do any further interviewing. I enjoyed the environment of the company and it certainly does seem to treat its employees well. My only complaint would be with the rather rigid structure of the graduate scheme that does not allow much deviation from the set divisions.
The Culture
Yes this aspect was amazing. Lloyds paid for us to all be a big student accommodation block over the 10 weeks... it was like being in first year halls all over again! There was always things to do in the city (it was amazing to be able to stay in Edinburgh during the whole month of the Fringe!)
It wasn't particularly cheap but certainly a lot cheaper than it would have been if I were placed in London.
Again, this was great. There were so many different clubs, bars, and pubs to go to in Edinburgh and there were always other interns up to go with you! When the Fringe kicked in it was very easy to stay out until the early hours of the morning and stay entertained with all the shows!
There were a few but not much at all.
