The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed coming into the business, learning first hand what a career in my department entails and engaging with professionals who have been courteous and helpful
I felt truly valued, colleagues were always positive in providing feedback and helpful when suggesting room for improvement
Sitting close to my supervisor meant support and guidance was just a question away, I would often engage with my supervisor and line managers to discuss progress, how I'm settling in, any help they could provide and any areas I could get involved with
My workload had ups and downs, there were times I would have work to keep my busy all week and other days I would be looking for work but I accept that this is part of the internship as I have limited knowledge of the area, processes and systems in addition to the expertise required to perform the work that my colleagues do Gaining access to the various systems was problematic and limited the work I could do, though this has gotten better as the weeks improved
Much more than expected. I would often work on documents/models for the team which would be used to assess clients, to create agenda discussion points and which would influence the credit teams decision to lend.
A lot of what I have done in the bank will carry across into my studies as my course revolves around the financial services sector. Collaboration, communication and time management skills have been honed during my internship and will be valuable in my final year of study
The Company
Positive and friendly
The team and my manager were keen to get me involved in different things and develop my skills and understanding of our department The business provided many insight WebEx calls, online training and a wealth of e-resources to learn more
Very appealing. I have expressed an interest to return to the organisation for a position on the graduate programme, I have interviewed for this position and I'm looking forward to hearing whether I have been fortunate enough to secure a position on the scheme
The Culture
There was, I have engaged with the other interns across Glasgow a number of times, enjoyed nights out and kept in contact throughout the internship - we're all keen to keep in contact after the internship
I was fortunate enough to be placed in my home city of Glasgow and therefore accommodation/living expenses were not an issues
There were many events which we, as interns, were invited to. Many of them, however, were located in London On my second week I was fortunate enough to join the team on a night out for a colleague who was changing roles within the business
