The Role
Pursing a placement was a step that I wanted to take in order to enrich my CV. Being able to have a first hand experience in my favourite field would enable me to better understand if my expectations matched the reality of the role. I started learning crucial lessons even before getting hired for the job. The whole process that revolves around applying for a firm is challenging and making it through requires resilience, drive and passion. Working for Atos was a formative experience as it highlighted various facets of the corporate environment that were unknown to me before entering the organisation. The digital transformation movement meant that most of the past obsolete processes were being renewed with the use of advanced technologies. The business operations role was particularly enticing due to the gravity of my responsibilities. I was managing a software that could monitor the productivity levels of 1000+ employees all at the same time. After the rigorous training I received I was able to suggest solutions to managers within the whole contract, which would ideally increase efficiency by optimising the time staff members spent on specific tasks. Ultimately, I learned first hand about the fundamental role of business operations within a firm and how useful data gathering softwares can be when trying to make the best decision in a timely manner. Furthermore, the skills I developed during the past 12 months are going to benefit me both as a student and a future graduate.
The majority of my colleagues did not receive the training I did thus I was considered a specialist in my area. I was the point of reference if they required any assistance regarding the software that was used.
Plenty of support was offered, especially 1 on 1 meetings with supervisors if required.
Extremely busy as my team was small and we were offering assistance to 1000+ employees.
High level of responsibility. Work hard and ask for more development opportunities.
High extent as all of the work competencies and skills I learnt are transferable to any scenario in life, not just work.
The Company
Friendly yet serious when it regarded important matters.
Greatly organised in the south, slightly less so in the north in terms of social events.
Plenty of training available and a decent archive of guides for self development such as Free excel courses or QA induction courses.

The Culture
Only 1 other intern at the site I was placed in. Majority of interns get placed in London.
Stockton-on-Tees has a low cost of living due to the small size of the city.
