The Role
Was good. Lot of early mornings. Days flew by due to being very busy. Enjoyed what the jobs I was doing, whist feeling like I was getting a good experience.
Was given useful jobs, and small responsibilities early on, and reporting to higher up team members on a regular basis. Regular meetings with my line manager.
Regular meetings with my line manager, had a group of other construction managers with vast experience therefore could ask anything.
Towards the middle and end busy as the project came towards handover and when I was given some responsibilities. Slow towards the start learning about the project, what everyone's roles were.
Given more responsibility than I expected, handling a small subcontractor package, as well as the key schedule. Completed a lot of snagging and organizing snagging works.
Learnt about the stages of building, not as much engineering as I expected. Assists my degree in terms of the big design projects, leaning to what extent something can be constructed.
The Company
Atmosphere was good. Very busy on a day to day basis, with subcontractors and others all querying. The team I worked with knew how to have a laugh, and was also a good working environment.
The Placement was very organised. -Quick return on application and invitation to interview. -Well organised sending out of contracts. -Big organised full MACE induction with all other interns and year placement students, so got a good chance to meet everyone. -Well organised on site, regular meetings with manager. -End of placement review with all other interns in head office.
On the first day there was a full MACE induction, thus we got to learn about the core values and the way MACE works. After this there was e-learning to complete, which covered a lot from safety to BIM. Easy to book onto training courses, or complete e-courses online.
National Travel
Future prospects are appealing, with a well rated graduate program. massive company operating in many different sectors and in different countries, thus lots of interesting opportunities.
The Culture
I was a little out of it, with the majority of interns in London and me in Oxford.
I lived at home thought my placement and commuted on the train. Prices of socialising were similar to any other city.
