The Role
Enjoyed seeing how a business operates and seeing what a day to day role in a big corporation looks like. Only improvement would be more exposure to more elements of the bank, not just sticking to one business area for the whole 10 weeks.
My team made me feel very valued and appreciated, and thoroughly enjoyed my time with them.
I was given constant feedback and was constantly taught many key areas of the business, by learning how the procedures worked or how an incident was being handled and reported.
Think it varied quite a lot, some days I was very busy and some days I didn't have a great deal to do. However I did always have some form of outstanding work.
I felt like I was given a great deal of responsibility, especially in the time I was there for. I was able to attend service meetings with suppliers and presented to committees several times.
Definitely gained a lot of different skills throughout my time at Santander as it was my first real taste of seeing how an "Office Job" worked, so it was highly beneficial. Also to get into a routine and a work schedule will really benefit me in the final year of my degree and beyond.
The Company
To be honest it was quite quiet giving it being a summer internship and someone always seemed to be on holiday in my office which was quite large. However in my general team the atmosphere was adequate however everyone does just get on with their day to day activities.
Thought the first week was a bit of a mess with a lot of things not set up in advance, such as intranet access and just general log ins. Just feel like there could of been more contact and set up prior to the internship as the first week was really slow and wasted as a result. However apart from that it was set up to a good standard.
I think they gave me great responsibility and really wanted to see me develop. I was given so many opportunities to visit various offices all over England and really see the full end to end of the business. I definitely felt valued, my only critique would be maybe more interaction amongst the interns and more training prior to the internship so you can really hit the ground running and make some friends across multiple areas of the business.

Currently in the final review process however I would be definitely interested in taking up a job with the organisation if I'm offered one.
The Culture
This would be one major critique of the internship. In terms of interaction with fellow interns there wasn't a great deal other than ones based in my location, I think it would be beneficial for greater interaction with the other interns, such as set up social nights or more meet ups other than just the two times.
I commuted by train from my home everyday, so didn't see much of Leicester. However with the two other interns based in Leicester I socialised a great deal and the cost of living wasn't too over priced.
N/A.
Wasn't a great deal offered.
