The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. It is a great opportunity to meet a wide array of different people from different places and different divisions. In terms of the work I was given work that was quite involved and important. This made me feel like a valuable member of the team from day one.
Since the start of the internship I felt very welcome by my team and the other teams around me. All members were very welcoming and friendly and always asked if there was anything they could do to help. Over the course of the internship I felt like I was a key member of the team.
I had quite a lot of work to do on a daily basis. I did not feel at any point throughout the internship that I had no work to do. You can manage the work load how you like to so that on some days you can be busier than others and other days it can be quieter.
Before I started this internship, I thought I may have had a side project that was not really relevant however this was not the case. For my internship I was given a few projects to complete by the end of the internship. One of them was to work on integral part of the banks system and so I had a lot of responsibility in order to maintain and enhance this system.
I feel that from this internship I have gained a lot of technical skills that I can apply to my degree and final year project upon resuming university. Since I was in the technology department, my team were always helping me improve on my work and become more efficient with my coding style.
The Company
I feel that there was a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the office and a place where people were genuinely happy to come in and to work every day. The teams I had around me got on really well and made it a really enjoyable place to work for my internship.
I feel that the HR staff did a great job with organising this internship. From the start we knew the layout of the internship that we would have 1 week of training and then the rest 9 weeks would be at the desk. From the training week to the different events throughout the internship for the interns, everything was very well organised and ran smoothly.
I feel the company really invested in the intern cohort as a whole, Every week (or couple of weeks in some cases) we had a training session to learn more about the bank, whether it be the culture or the different sectors of the bank to learning about personal wellbeing and ways to improve your way of living.

The Culture
Since I lived at home, there was no expense for rent. The tube is easily accessible and so the only cost was for the tube which is fairly good. There are many different pubs, clubs and restaurants in the nearby area and the cost of these are reasonable considering it is in the heart of London.
Being in London, the nightlife is great. There are many different pubs, clubs and restaurants in the nearby area and there is so much for you to do. If you cannot find anything nearby, the tube is easily accessible to be able to travel anywhere within London to enjoy the nightlife elsewhere.
During this internship there are many opportunities to get involved in activities out of work. These range from touch rugby, subsidised gym and other sporting activities. There are also plenty of opportunities to help local charities through volunteering schemes and an Environmental Social and Governance project which all interns take part in.
