The Role
Welcoming and friendly colleagues, attentive and informative management, and interesting work. Not 10/10 as I personally decided I wouldn't want to go into research. I nonetheless thoroughly enjoyed the role and working for BASF - and would consequently recommend BASF's industrial placement for anyone interested in science and research.
Felt valued by employees throughout the organisation.
Support throughout, whenever needed - including invaluable monthly 1-to-1 with line manager.
For the large majority of my placement I was busy; the only period in which I wasn't was very briefly during company restructuring.
Perfect balance struck between getting interns to the necessary workload and gradually providing more responsibility (in line with the respective capabilities and performance).
Ability to project manage was significantly enhanced while on my placement, which helped for final year with the large workload. Also, essential research techniques learned at BASF from the great management helped with my dissertation and research-based coursework.
The Company
Friendly and jovial, always willing to listen and help.
Well organised, especially given the relatively young age of the placement compared with other companies.
Constant on-the-job training, with great support from not only line manager but all staff. All necessary training for the role is provided.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Job prospects are appealing, however graduate roles require candidates to speak fluent German. If it were not for this, I would've applied.
The Culture
Good social scene, and opportunities to go out etc.
Lived in just outside city centre, which was reasonably priced and had all necessary amenities.
Great nightlife and social scene.
Many opportunities. The city has a great cultural scene and activities for everyone.
