The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship ! Grant Thornton has great work environment which isn't your typical 'corporate' environment its extremely progressive, which made it a great environment to work in.
During my internship I felt valued by my fellow colleagues as I was able to assist them with their workloads , which was recognised by all colleagues who I undertook work for.
The support system in my department (corporate tax) was superb ! We were given buddy's who helped us with any task no matter how menial it was . Additionally, other more senior figures in the team were more than happy to help us and answer any queries we had.
On the whole I was generally quite busy , however, the first week I found it to be much quieter since we were adapting to the office environment and how to use the software. From week 2 onwards I was consistently busy but never felt pressured to stay later than 5.30. In fact it was frowned upon to stay later !
I was given a lot more responsibility than I was expecting . The level of work we were doing was pretty much the same as the first year associates.
Being an accounting and finance student , this internship has helped pin point the dots and see what I learn in theory carried out in practice making some of the concepts learnt at university more understandable to the real world,
The Company
There was a good atmosphere very serene environment which makes doing work a lot easier.
I can't fault the organisation it was very organised with frequent correspondence before our actual start plus having our buddy's email meant we had another point of reference to ask questions to without feeling silly.
I feel that GT invested a fair amount into us even though we were only company for 6 weeks such as having the opportunity to visit Bradenham - which is. unique experience to GT which allowed us to develop our presentation skills
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
At the end of my internship I was offered a graduate job !
The Culture
The social scene at my office was really good , we often went for afterwork drinks and Friday lunches .
I stayed at home whilst doing my internship so didn't have to pay any major expense other than a bus pass.
Great nightlife
Yes, such as joining the sports team , which I did .
