    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Great experience. I was impressed by the resources employed by the bank to train the summer intern class of 2017.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Probably the best point of the experience and definitely the most surprising for me. No matter the level of seniority, everybody in the office is respected by his colleagues. On a second note, even as intern I was often asked for my views and on occasions the changes I proposed were actually implemented

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I found HSBC’s policy of assigning a buddy as well as mentor to be extremely helpful. Furthermore, HSBC’s friendly and open culture promotes a high degree of collaboration between the people in the organization.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As expected for an Investment Banking job the hours were long. Nonetheless I was always given reasonable deadlines and the pressure on me was never too much.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Even as intern I was often asked for my views and on occasions the changes I proposed were actually implemented.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • During the 10 weeks I spent at HSBC, I dramatically enhanced both my technical skills and my sector knowledge. I believe these will be extremely helpful in the next future

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was always friendly.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Both the recruitment process and the schedule of the internship had been carefully planned by HR which organized several events (maybe too many)

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The first week of the program was spent training with AMT. Even for a Finance major the training proved useful and interesting as it was highly practical, with most of the tasks completed on excel.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    International Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was able to create very good relationships with most of my fellow interns

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Rent is quite expensive in London. I spent GBP880 for a single room 10 mins walk from the office in a residence. Night life tends to be pretty expensive as well. Anyways, considering the hours the time left for "socualizing" was "limited".

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • HSBC organized several of such activities such as the CSR day.

    4/5
