The Role
Great experience. I was impressed by the resources employed by the bank to train the summer intern class of 2017.
Probably the best point of the experience and definitely the most surprising for me. No matter the level of seniority, everybody in the office is respected by his colleagues. On a second note, even as intern I was often asked for my views and on occasions the changes I proposed were actually implemented
I found HSBC’s policy of assigning a buddy as well as mentor to be extremely helpful. Furthermore, HSBC’s friendly and open culture promotes a high degree of collaboration between the people in the organization.
As expected for an Investment Banking job the hours were long. Nonetheless I was always given reasonable deadlines and the pressure on me was never too much.
Even as intern I was often asked for my views and on occasions the changes I proposed were actually implemented.
During the 10 weeks I spent at HSBC, I dramatically enhanced both my technical skills and my sector knowledge. I believe these will be extremely helpful in the next future
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was always friendly.
Both the recruitment process and the schedule of the internship had been carefully planned by HR which organized several events (maybe too many)
The first week of the program was spent training with AMT. Even for a Finance major the training proved useful and interesting as it was highly practical, with most of the tasks completed on excel.

The Culture
I was able to create very good relationships with most of my fellow interns
Rent is quite expensive in London. I spent GBP880 for a single room 10 mins walk from the office in a residence. Night life tends to be pretty expensive as well. Anyways, considering the hours the time left for "socualizing" was "limited".
HSBC organized several of such activities such as the CSR day.
