The Role
The job description was a bit confusing and when going into the job I didn't really know what to expect. There were aspects of the job that were enjoyable including working with the school groups and helping develop some of the materials at for the school groups. But this was also met with some not so enjoyable jobs including classroom cleaning and fixing broken equipment. Overall the job was enjoyable, but what made it enjoyable was the people there.
My colleagues made my year, instantly making me feel welcomed and always up for a laugh and a joke. They felt like people you could rely on and people you could always go to for help. I was included in discussions about the workplace and felt people called upon me when they needed help, which made me feel valued.
I had several one on one meetings with my line manager throughout the year to see how I was getting on and set goals for me. I feel that the support was good and that I could go to my line manager if I had a problem
I found that there was always work to be getting on with and that even though some periods felt manic there was a good balance of work.
There were several areas of responsibility I had including doing some monthly and daily checks. I felt that the amount of responsibility given suited the job role.
I feel that the job hasn't particularly helped assist my degree studies but has given me a view into the working world, how to behave in a professional manner, keeping time and organisational skills.
The Company
The atmosphere was generally good, but sometimes could be a bit stressful. Overall everyone got on and was always up for a good time which I think was aided by all team lunch and tea breaks.
The overall placement was organised reasonably well, other than the job description leading to me not fully knowing what I was going into.
I was allowed to go on several training schemes and had personal goals set which allowed me to develop.
Subsidised Canteen
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare/Dental
I feel I would be happy to rejoin the company.
The Culture
At the early stages I met all the placement students from across the organisation which was nice, but for the rest of the year you were with the placement students at your centre. This was nice and I felt that it meant you could get to know them well.
With the FSC placement students are given the option to live on site which was really good and much cheaper and easier than having to find somewhere in the local area to live.
The centre I worked at was in the middle of nowhere but this didn't stop us having get togethers, going to the pub and managing a few nights out.
The centre was based in a lovely area which allowed for me to go walking and there were local sports clubs in the villages nearby.
