Emissions Test Project Engineer Review

Thoroughly enjoyed it, especially after the first month, where I was able to do tasks on my own. Working for a giant like JLR can be overwhelming, especially after the first induction days. Our undergraduate intake was about 250-300 people for 3,6 and 12 placements. I got to make useful connections for my future in JLR and out of JLR.

My team was always available for help and guidance.

My supervisor did guide me, but not forced me to do their vision. When I was asked to do something I did not know how I asked for material to educate myself, which was always available. Later in the placement I was comfortable undertaking projects I knew nothing about, since I knew who to tackle it. As for support, my team and connections were most of the time.

There is an endless amount of work. You can ask for more if you feel you are not busy enough or you can put on hold some less important tasks. The managers are flexible and will understand if you are overwhelmed from the work load. I advice to maintaining a constant amount of workload, so that no day feels too busy.

Some tasks were fully dependent on me. If I felt that a task was too important for me, I would let my supervisor know and they would assign someone to help/support.

The scope of the work were not directly correlated with my scope of studies; I am an Electronics Engineer but was allocated in Emissions. It is the traits, such as communication and teamwork and skills such as programming and technical writing that were developed and will be definitely be used in my degree

I was mainly based in an open desk space. The atmosphere there was very professional and welcoming. I also got to work in workshop and testing areas, where safety is number 1 priority. My team was a very young team with an average around 27 years old, and therefore fun.

The placement was very organized. Even though the undergraduate intake for 3,6 and 12 year placements was about 250-300, we were all giver clear instructions. The only downside is that some instructions were given a bit late, ie on which site I would be based in so that I can find a nearby place.

It is very appealing to work here. With regular pay increases and continuous work support, with no much need for overtime (from what I see), it looks like a good full time job. The worst thing about working here is having to live nearby here. Leamington Spa looks much more attractive to be fair than Coventry, where I have been living.

I was used to London prices. Everything looks cheap to me around here. Lunch within the company under £5, £13.80 for a weekly pass from central Coventry to JLR and about £100 per week rend including bills near Coventry center. JLR employee benefits include gyms, car purchases and electrician appliance purchases.

I stayed in Coventry. Nightlife is just pubs. It looks more promising for Leamingron Spa to be fair.
