The Role
I very much enjoyed working at EY, the work was challenging yet interesting and was able to get a full exposure of what working her would be like. In a firm as large as EY there is not a shortage of work to do, so you are always kept busy; the variety of work and clients makes your day to day work fun
There is a great environment at EY; everyone is friendly and very approachable. There is a good balance between being professional and informality between colleagues. You feel at ease and comfortable at work and the work you do is appreciated by those that u work with. By providing feedback they want you to be the best that you can be
I was assigned 2 buddies and counsellor during my time at EY, but due to everyone being so approachable and friendly I was able to get support and guidance from anyone I asked. The workers at EY will help you if you ask them; if they're busy at that time they will kindly ask you to wait or will get someone else to help. I had regular catch-ups with my counsellor and with those that I worked with to ensure I get the best experience I can during my internship.
Throughout my internship, I have received plenty of work to do; I have been involved in various projects which kept me busy on a daily basis. At times I would be managing my time between projects. There were times when you would lose track of time as you are so busy with one big project. As long as you manage and prioritize your time efficiently then it won't overwhelm you.
During my placement I was given the responsibility I expected; at this stage you don't have much real knowledge so you do important things but they aren't as technical. They teach you as much as they can whilst they know your limits they will not give you anything that requires too much expertise. The responsibilities that you are given are essential however to the project that you are on so they require time and attention.
During my time I believe I have greatly improved my business acumen, whilst that does not relate to my mathematics and statistics degree, it will greatly help me in the future. I have also improved my researching skills and by going through large numbers of texts to pinpoint key points may come in handy in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is warm and friendly, whilst professional and formal.
Very well organized; there is a fixed objective sheet that I was to set to complete during my time at EY and I always had something to do.
As this is an internship there wasn't much importance on training and development. However during my time I was required to complete many tasks that has allowed me to develop skills that would be of vital importance in the future if I were to work here.
Depending on how well I have performed on the internship will determine if I receive a graduate job offer. There is a lot of scope for progression within the organization, whilst being one of the big 4, it is still growing. As the firm grows, so does career prospects.
The Culture
Everyone pretty much gets along, people have common interests and there are regular social events where you can get to know your colleagues more. Your day to day work life is also quite social as everyone is near each other and so there is a good social aspect.
I live nearby so travel costs were not bad, whilst socializing in the area is also easy as the work place is near to the city center; there are lots of things to do with colleagues such as getting lunch or going shopping.
N/A
There have been quite a few social events such as BBQs , sporting events, go-kart racing with colleagues.
