    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my work placement as it allowed me to thoroughly experience working in a corporate environment. I had the chance to see different areas of the company so I could really get an idea of what went on, and all my colleagues were very friendly, welcoming and supportive.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I got on very well with my colleagues and they did their best to support me and take me to see interesting meetings where they could. I also bonded with them during team building events and community days. As it was during the summer it was occasionally quite quiet in the office.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor was very supportive and arranged for me to see different parts of the company and learn more about the areas I was most interested in. He made sure the work I was given developed my skills and gave me plenty of opportunities to really make the most of my internship.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It understandably took a bit of time at the beginning for me to be given enough work, but once I had spent some more time on my placement I was given responsibility for more projects and became a lot busier. By the end, I had a challenging amount of work to complete.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given responsibility for several projects over the course of my internship, for which I had to do things like arranging meetings, and I felt like the work I was doing really mattered towards the team. I also had the chance to attend important meetings, which were really interesting.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained a lot of valuable experience of working in a corporate environment during my internship. I learnt some useful transferable skills such as using Agile working and website building, which I will be able to put on my CV and hopefully they will help with my ongoing career progression.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My colleagues were very friendly and happy to talk to each other and I got the impression that everybody was quite happy to work in my office. However, there were some days where it was a bit quieter as people were working from home or because they were working in other locations.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was well organised, with on boarding and off boarding events to help us settle in and move on at the end. There were several intern calls to teach us more about the company, and an intern project to complete which gave me the chance to work with other interns.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had to do a certain amount of mandatory training once we arrived on the first day. There were extra training courses available online for the rest of my time there. On the internship, I was able to work on projects which developed specific skills, and my colleagues were happy to put in the time to help me learn how to do these. There were also special calls arranged for interns so they could learn more about the company.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is a graduate scheme which interns are considered for.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We were encouraged to meet with fellow interns through a charity project. This led to us eating lunch together and socialising after work. We also met up with our colleagues on the graduate scheme, who were able to give us advice about how to make the most of our internships.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I commuted to my place of work. Taking the train in everyday was quite expensive.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I commuted to my place of work.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were several opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work through charity community days. I attended two of these community days and they were great opportunities to get to know my team a bit better, outside of the office environment, whilst doing something both charitable and highly enjoyable.
