The Role
The internship as a whole was very enjoyable. I found myself doing a variety of work which was pleasing, however they also understood the value of other things such as networking and getting to know your peers.
My colleagues certainly valued me and the time I gave in to the work I was doing. There were occasions where they would explain that I wasn't qualified enough or didn't have enough experience to do a certain job, however they were very forthcoming with this.
I was provided with both a buddy and a counsellor who were very easily accessible did I have a question or need something. The managers on my clients were also very supportive, helping me with my work and introducing me to lots of people.
Being the quiet season in Audit, there were definitely times where I wasn't very busy and felt fairly unutilised. This is understandable in this service line during the summer, and generally there were people around who would help me to find work if I needed this. Saying this, when assigned to clients I very rarely found myself with spare time.
I was given responsibility in terms of the teams trusted me to get on with my work, confident that I would take any queries to them as and when they arose. There were elements that (being an intern) I was naturally not allowed to do such as signing off on work, however I would say I was given a fair amount of responsibility.
The skills and knowledge that I developed will certainly help me with my studies at university, gaining a deeper understanding of Audit and the processes of a business in general. We didn't have any training as such, however given the short period of the internship this was probably expected.
The Company
Everyone was extremely helpful in the office and very open when it came to questions. If I ever needed anything or had a problem there was someone I could go to, and I felt fairly confident in doing so. It can be fairly serious at times, but this is natural in this sort of an environment.
In general, the internship was extremely well organised. We were sent a lot of onboarding information and even had our own dedicated website, and everything was clearly communicated to us. I did find that in the first week there were a few absences from key people for me, and this left me feeling a bit lost, however apart from this it was very well set up.
We were given weekly sessions on personal development via a skype call which were very interesting and engaging. As well as this, as previously mentioned questions are extremely welcome in terms of career paths and how people have got to where they are now, something that can be very helpful when trying to decide which path you want to take.

I will certainly be looking to join the firm again in the future, and am looking forward to participating in an industrial placement between my second and third years. The career prospects on the whole are unparalled and open up a huge number of doors for the future, meaning it's a great place to start your career!
The Culture
All of the summer interns were extremely friendly, and all being in the same boat meant that we stuck together fairly well. We had many group chats and would organize to go to lunch and met after work for drinks on a lot of occasions. It was good to see that everyone was keen to get involved.
I live just outside London therefore commuted in from home meaning the cost of living wasn't too bad, however the train fares were not ideal! The cost of socializing varied depending on where you went, however the prices were fairly standard for London and we can't complain when we're being paid for the internship!
The area on the whole was buzzing in the evenings, with many similar firms also working out of the area. The pubs and restaurants were always very busy which was nice to be around, however as previously mentioned the cost of going out was not cheap!
Being only a month long internship we didn't get a great chancer to get involved with stuff outside of work, however we were told about many opportunities that we'd be able to get involved with when we come back as placement students or graduates, including sports teams, work socials and trips abroad on charity hikes for example.
