The Role
I really enjoyed the internship because I was doing work which was valuable to the firm and to the client. I was assigned tasks which challenged me, however I was provided with constant guidance and my questions were always happily answered. Initially I found the transition to a new working environment and the use of technical terms challenging (coming from a non-related academic background), however this is why I believe I learnt so much. A criticism I would give is that the length of the internship (4 weeks) was too short - as we got settled in it was almost time to leave!
Although I did not have technical knowledge or qualifications, I always felt that the work I did was really valued. After each task I was always appreciated for the work I did and also given constructive feedback. As in intern its easy to feel intimidated but the overall team atmosphere was very welcoming and positive.
A great extent - I was always explained a task before I was given it, I could ask as many questions as I needed to, whenever I needed to and a lot of my seniors would check up on me during the task to see if everything was going okay.
I felt most of the time I was occupied with a good level of work and so the days went by really quickly and I didn't get bored. However, as it is not busy season in the field I'm working in, there were periods of the day with not too much to do - but I filled this time with compulsory web learning for example.
For the amount of technical knowledge I have - a fair amount. I got to meet with a member of the client's team independently, carry out tasks which formed the foundation of the more complicated procedures and keep in communication with wider teams about progress. I wouldn't expect to be given responsibility of things that I am not qualified to handle!
Although I don't study a degree related to my internship, the skills will definitely come in to good use! The people and communication skills, learning to work in a professional environment, IT and technical skills, amongst many will be treasured!
The Company
A really friendly, positive atmosphere. Everyone has a great work ethic, but this doesn't portray itself as stress - more as motivation. We have hot desks so you could be sitting next to a partner one day and a graduate the other. Everyone is really approachable and I felt mentally relaxed, not stressed or frazzled.
I was always aware of what is happening and when, with good emails and communications with the team. The only criticism I would give is that after you take out the two and a half day induction plus a bank holiday, there aren't many days left at work - this could have been done differently.
A fair amount - we had a few inductions at the start and then web based learning throughout - again, there's not a lot we can squeeze in to four weeks.

I'd love to work at EY in the future and I am hoping to receive and take up a graduate offer within the same team!
The Culture
We had lunches together, drinks after work quite regularly, we have a couple of group chats and everyone stays in touch. The only times this becomes difficult is when lots of the group are based on different client sites and finish work at different times! In this case it becomes a bit difficult to organise socials but we seemed to make it work!
I live close enough to commute from home, but socialising is expensive in central London! It is the same all over central London, so working anywhere in that region will be the same - expensive! You just have to make it work and budget well - the same as university. That being said, central London has some really cool places to go and the after work drinks atmosphere is always good!
Great but expensive!
A lot of networks - Women's network, LGBT network, sports networks, EY Foundation (their charity) etc. Even in my short time here I volunteered for the EY foundation and had a great time and made some new friends. The networks always have socials and other opportunities so there's a lot to do if you want to get involved.
