    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship to a great extent, where I accumulated lots of experience and a realistic glimpse into what life would be like working at a Big 4 firm. Not only was the work challenging for me but also gave me plenty of opportunities to learn and develop upon my previous knowledge.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Throughout my time at EY I felt highly valued by my colleagues, who were not afraid to set high expectations for me to perform the best that I possibly could in the work I carried out. They knew as an intern there would be a limit to the amount I could contribute and yet still found ways for me to add value to each task no matter how technical the work had gotten.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • During the whole process support and guidance was always available and accessible for me. My supervisors were very friendly and approachable towards any queries that I had making the interactions a lot easier during times that I needed assistance. This was definitely a stand out factor that helped to make my internship such an enjoyable learning experience.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On a daily basis there was always tasks for me to be doing, whether it be carrying out accounting processes or simply learning exercises for me to enhance my knowledge and getting to know the working culture within EY. Things never got so overwhelming for me as work was kept to a manageable level that I could handle.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Once I settled in at EY and I felt more comfortable responsibility eventually began to come my way, and soon enough I had my own mini projects that I handled by myself. This made me feel more accomplished in the work I was doing in that I was confident in myself in getting the task done and that if things were to start going wrong help would always be available if needed.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • For me the internship complimented my degree very suitably, and there were many times where the knowledge I was taking in at EY related heavily to my studies. Both the theoretical and technical aspects of the job will definitely help me as I continue my academic career, so the overall experience was very useful to me.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In the office I was surrounded by plenty of approachable people who I got along well with. This in turn helped to create a friendly and fun atmosphere in the office, and it was clear to me that this was the case throughout the department I worked in. Even so, everyone remained calm and focused on their work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The whole set up of the work placement was very well organized, and the team made plenty of effort to check on all the interns regularly to see how we were getting on. This made the process much more seamless in the way it was run and ensured that my time spent at the firm would only be concerned my development and the tasks at hand.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was plenty of personal training available to me, which the firm made an extra effort to provide to all the interns. Opportunities for development were also present, which assisted me in my pursuit of improving myself in my abilities throughout my time at EY. This investment the firm made is another stand out area that made the internship a success.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The opportunities within the firm were definitely an appealing factor to me, as I was able the witness the work carried out by those in senior positions at EY. This not only inspired but also encouraged me to pursue these prospects within the firm and is something I hope to achieve in the future.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was certainly many chances for the fellow interns to socialize, given that there were so many of us in the same position. This enable us all to relate to one another, and our exchanges amongst us much more valuable and of more interest. The 4 weeks was enough for us to really get to know one another and create lasting friendships for the future.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Working in the London office meant a very pricey and expensive experience when it came to socializing and living in the local area. I was already aware that this would be the case, and is by no means at fault by the firm but is definitely something to be aware of if considering working down south. Otherwise a regional office could be a better option.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The capital holds an amazing nightlife scene with office socials being a frequent event popping up around the firm. This is also thanks to the people and the culture at EY, who are well aware of the need to both work hard but also enjoy themselves in the process when things begin to start getting overwhelming.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Outside of work EY holds many other projects going on that can be of interest to people from a variety of different backgrounds. Whatever people have a passion for there is almost certainly an outlet that EY has that will enable you to explore and develop this passion whether it be charity, sport or in the EY Foundation.
