The Role
The internship was mostly interesting, with plenty of work to do and lots to learn. There were some quiet times, during which there wasn't much to do, however these were few and far between and there was usually someone around that could help you out.
Everyone in the company was really friendly and helpful. They are all clearly very busy, so are grateful for your input and offer great feedback. They will treat you like part of the team and are so welcoming.
They definitely won't just set you lose. They take the time to sit down with you and show you step by step what you have to do. Be sure to take notes because there are usually a lot of steps! They also speak pretty fast, so be sure to pay attention while they're explaining things to you, and ask questions early on so you aren't just sitting around wasting time!
It varies day to day. Some days the work flow was pretty constant, meaning you have to work through your lunch to keep up! But then some days it's pretty slow and there isn't s whole lot you can do. Expect a mixture of both.
Your work is thoroughly checked by your seniors, however they do trust you to complete the work without baby sitting you at every step.
There is a lot of work including Microsoft excel, which will definitely help in years to come. The internship gave me a base understanding of what is included in audit and even begins introducing you to some of the techniques used in audit, which will definitely stand you in good stead if this is something you're interested in pursuing.
The Company
The teams within EY that I experienced were very friendly and fun. Visiting client sites was therefore good because it allows you to get to know them better. The atmosphere in the office was usually quite quiet, everyone is concentrated. However in the smaller subsections the vibe is more relaxed.
As mentioned before there are some days when there isn't much to do. This could have been made better if the Placement Team had a project or something for you to do in your spare time.
Each intern is assigned a counsellor who will take good care of you and make sure that you're getting the full experience. They provide a lot of Web Based Learning so you can learn things about the work place and about the company.

During the placement you must collect feedback from the employees that you work with. Using this feedback, a panel decides whether to offer you a placement. Everyone is pretty positive about the outcome of the panel meeting.
The Culture
It is mostly left to interns to organize socials after work, which we did!
Being based in London isn't cheap! Regional offices would probably be better for this, but rent in London is extreme.
Again, the nightlife in London is good, but very expensive!
There are different clubs inside EY that are available, but being only a month long internship, the opportunity wasn't really applicable.
