The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my work placement and would recommend it, anyone. You learn a lot about how to deal with people and to make them interested in you and a product. I think these are essential skills for any person. You are thrown straight into the deep end and I think there is a lot of value in that.
Everyone was so friendly and supportive. Help was there whenever I needed it.
Guidance was there if you needed it but I preferred to work on things myself, and I feel like this job encourages that.
How busy you are in a day depends on how many sales you make and the time you spend in store. I would leave at 8 am, some days I would return at 2 pm and others at 4:30. I never felt that busy as depending on where you live, you can spend a large proportion of your time in the car.
We were required to pick up stock from the Cash & Carry and settle our accounts, look after a hire car, collect and manage money received from sales and to organising our travel routes and store call each day. This wasn't difficult but is some responsibility. You are responsibly for yourself and in that, how well you do.
This is an extremely practical job which I learned a lot from. It will give me some micro context to parts of my degree but I think the skills I learned will assist me more after I finish my degree and pursue my career further. I learned resilience, independence and improved my sales technique.
The Company
The atmosphere was mostly good. Seemed quite at times but they often have special events going which everyone enjoys.
The internship was fairly well organised but could have been better at times. There was a lack of communication within the business at the start as they got confused as to where my home location was. This lead to me being short stocked for the first two weeks. Apart from this, the structure of the internship was good.
The training for the job was fairly good. We had weeks training at the start of the internship where we learned about the business, its products and the steps of the call which we needed to make a sale. But just like learning to drive, most of the experience comes when you start to drive on your own. We learned the basics of what we needed to do and they put us in a position to refined them once we were 'in the field'.

Seemed like it had a good, clear career progression ladder
The Culture
All of us interns got on really really well and would go for drinks after work and have supper together. This is an area of the job i really enjoyed and looked forward to.
Whilst at the office, we spend almost nothing as we had breakfast, lunch, supper and the hotel paid for us. The only money we spent was on drinks after work. It was great.
Nightlife wasn't great as we were in Hayes, right on the M4, but this didn't really matter as we worked in the week and went home on the weekends. There is a little pub right next to the hotel which is quaint but quiet.
Not really. There is a gym there but you have to pay a small membership, which we couldn't do as interns.
