The Role
It was a very enjoyable internship. it was well structured from start to finish, you always knew what was going, a good training week to bring everyone up to speed. Well-supported both by colleagues and HR. Good number of social events and networking events
Obviously being an intern means that you don't provide as much value as a full employee. However a number of the people working at HSBC made sure that if they gave you a job you understood how it fitted into the bigger picture which increased job satisfaction.
Very well supported by HR and by the buddy system which meant that the first few weeks were much calmer and it was easier to find your feet.
Although the first few weeks were a bit slow after the third week all the interns had enough work to keep them busy. I never let bored or useless whilst at work and always had something to do which was good.
Especially towards the end of an internship you were given more trust and responsibility from colleagues. This was very much proportional to how good the work you did was
The skills learnt will definitely help me in my degrees studies and into the future. Firstly, the banking work ethic means it is much easier to 'get your head down' and work. The intensive usage of computer means that I am much more familiar and quick on a computer. My degree has little relation to finance so int eh regard it hasn't helped much.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was good. A large number of employees took time out of their day in order to talk to us and explain different concepts to us which was helpful and improved the overall enjoyment of the day.
Very well organised internship from an HR perspective. We knew exactly what we were meant to do. Well set up onboarding process, induction week and the rest.
The firm invested very heavily into our personal training and development. We had a number of outside trainers come in to train us on a range of different subjects. The employees themselves also invested a lot of their time into us and made sure that we thoroughly understood the world given to us. I was impressed by how much they invested into us.

Company Parties/Events
Very appealing future employment prospects. HSBC breeds a culture of hard work ethic with sense of proportion. HSBC also is very good for more normal and human employees which is a huge benefit.
The Culture
Yes most certainly a good social scene. The group in which I was working had a number of after work drinks and social events including a game of rounders. There were also a number of events specifically for interns which was particularly enjoyable.
The cost of living and socialising is very high in London
Unsure. alright bar near the office.
Not particularly
