The Role
I felt this was a great experience, where many skills were developed.
Everyone was every friendly, and there was a good number of students.
My supervisor and group were very approachable and I was able to express any worries that I had.
I was given the correct balance of lab work and time to write up experiments and my report.
I was given the opportunity to design and optimise experiments, which was a good skill to develop.
I now know that I want to stay in science, therefore the lab skills that I have developed will help me in my future career and possible postgraduate opportunities.
The Company
There was a good balance of hard work and chatting set in place. People in my office were very friendly.
It was every well organised, a project was set up for me from the start of my placement, and this continued for half the year. I then got to undertake other tasks within the programme, which allowed my lab skills to develop further.
At the start of my placement, my supervisor took me through the experiments that I would undertake. I was then left to do the experiments, however if I had any queries I felt comfortable to ask my supervisor or other people in the lab.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
The company are undergoing cuts at the moment therefore it is unlikely that there will be jobs there when I graduate.
The Culture
Yes, we would go to the pub some Friday nights, which was nice.
The cost of living was standard, with student club entry prices.
The nightlife wasn't the best; my placement was in Stevenage, so only had 2 clubs to go to. However, there are lots of pubs.
There was a gym on site and Stevenage is only a small distance from London which always has things going on.
