The Role
The internship was really interesting and varied. I learned a lot about the world of finance from experts in the field!
All my colleagues were really friendly and welcomed every intern. They understood that we were there to learn and were always happy to help out.
I always knew my supervisor was there for me if I ever needed to ask anything or discuss a problem.
There was a really good balance between work for clients and work towards an intern project. I enjoyed completing a variety of work and every different piece was a learning curve for me!
As an intern, sending information to clients is forbidden. However, I was often given the responsibility of creating the emails, letters etc and having them reviewed by a more senior member of stuff. I never felt like my colleagues didn't think i was capable of completing the job to a high standard.
The skills I learnt on my placement will stay with me for life. I will be able to apply generic skills such as communication during my final year at university and more specific finance related skills during my graduate career!
The Company
I was surprised by how friendly and open the office environment was. I really enjoyed going to work in the mornings as I knew it was such a great environment to be in.
The internship ran like clockwork! Even with lots of other interns to organise I always knew where I was supposed to be and when. There was also flexibility in the specific areas of tax I was working in, to tailor my own needs :)
The company invested a lot of time in the interns to teach them about finance. Every member of staff was willing to answer any questions, and there were plenty of questions!

I was grateful to accept a graduate offer from Ernst & Young! I was surprised by how enjoyable the whole experience was and am looking forward to developing my skills in the future.
The Culture
I completed the internship alongside several other interns. We had a really good group of people and got on really well, ensuring that we socialised at lunch times etc. We also completed an induction before starting the placement and attended a final champagne ball, which meant we could catch up with the friends we had made!
I was able to live at home during my internship which saved me money! The pay was really good for the Reading office and there is always a cheaper option for socialising if you want to save money!
As i grew up in the area I worked in I know all the best places to go for a night out! If you are with people that you enjoy being with you will always have a great night!
There were plenty of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. Ernst & Young focus greatly on a work-life balance which is important to everyone!
