The Role
Everyone was very friendly, polite and helpful.
I had the opportunity to ask my supervisor any question at any time during the working day.
Generally there was always more work to be done.
I got to work with core company code from day 1, and to commit changes to the master branch by the end of week 1, which was thrilling.
Good work ethic and patience, as well as attention to detail are all useful skills to posses.
The Company
Very friendly, warm and welcoming. As mentioned previously, everyone was always ready to help.
You get to work on actual company software products right from the start, given enough guidance not to feel lost, but at the same time not to feel spoon-fed. Besides work, there were plenty of interesting company events/talks.
At any moment there was always an opportunity to ask someone on the team for help. Weekly one-on-one talks were organised with the supervisor, allowing you to discuss your progress. Code was peer-reviewed before committing to master. Often, your supervisor could give you helpful hints on how to write cleaner, more reusable code.
