    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was enjoyable experience working at ARM, it’s a very casual environment it work in and people are friendly and approachable. I worked in ATG and over the course of the 12 week placement I think I learnt a lot of new skills however I’m still unsure what ATG actually does.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I worked in a small office with a team of only 4 but I also worked with 2 other interns. Despite being in the same office however I was working on very different things to others. Due to not working properly in a team with anyone it was a bit strange but if I needed advice or coding help people were happy to help

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • If you asked for help people would usually be willing however most of the time you were just left to work on your own and figure things out for yourself. Feedback sometimes on work and code could take longer then you expected so you would end up waiting for a while

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was working on to different projects over the course of many internship. For the first one I found myself quite busy one day and then unsure what to do the next and doing very little. With my second project however there was always something interesting for me to do so I was always busy

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • On the projects I was given I was given a lot of responsibility and was the sole worker for both projects so in that respect I had a lot of responsibility. However the case with my first project was this was a responsibility over something that wasn’t really important so it didn’t feel like it was proper responsibility

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have yet to return to uni however my knowledge of python, git and various tools are far beyond what they were before and this experience will prove useful for later in my degree and in other jobs. I feel like I’m now a much better programmer and I have now got experience working with others on a live project

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was very relaxed and an enjoyable working environment. Talking to other interns and other engineers story’s about there work and life at Arm was very interesting. The occasional random conversation about TV, news or technology was fun and hearing opinions from different people from different career backgrounds was interesting

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Although HR messed up a couple of times with various people contracts overall everything went smoothly. There were lots of intern event and talks that were interesting and informative and HR were always willing to help if you had a question or any issues. If you wanted more shorten or extend your contract that would also be possible.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Arm offer a lot of training sessions in various things from coding class to help on presenting. However none of these was available to interns (as far as I’m aware no one I know managed to do one). However they do offer many informative talks and access to past presentations

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Arm is a really fun place to work at and I would really be interesting in working here again. The main issue isn’t anything to do with the company though, it’s the place. Cambridge isn’t a very interesting town and there ins’t much to do so I fear I would just get bored here

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were almost 100 interns over the course of my internship doing different degrees from many different university’s and from many different country’s. There was plenty of time at lunch to talk to people in different departments and Arm have a large collections of games you can play together. The interns would also organise nights out amount themselves.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was living in an Airbnb for 12 weeks, I'm sure renting over a longer period of time somewhere would be much cheaper.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Cambridge is pretty small and there aren’t that many clubs or restaurants and so maybe for longer placement it might not be that great. However with the people at arm its possible to have lots of great nights out and the few things that actually are at Cambridge are still pretty good

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Arm organised many intern activities during my 12 weeks but getting involved with non-intern events very much depended on your team

    4/5
