    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I very much enjoyed my time at Lidl, i believe the training i have received over the past year has begun to prepare me for my future career. Having been given the opportunity to see many different areas of the business was definitely an advantage and aided in my understanding of how the organisation works.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • There were definitely times where i felt more valued than others, in store for example there was a greater willingness to train and to use my skills that i had learnt. however in other areas there was often a reluctance to follow the training plan i had been given, due to my limited time in these departments this often impacted my learning.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support and guidance i received was top notch, it was made clear at the beginning of the placement who i needed to contact if i was having trouble or needed advice, there was always someone available to help or advise me on what steps to take.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This placement is not for those who are afraid of hard work, at times this was difficult but so long as you are willing to try your hardest this will be appreciated by your team.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given more responsibility in some departments than others, again this was due to the limited time in some departments, i really enjoyed the project work i was given throughout the year, allowing me to investigate procedures and feedback to senior management.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the skills i have learnt this past year will greatly assist me in my degree studies, i can now draw from practical examples and apply academic theory to real-world situations.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was good, friendly team members made the experience much more enjoyable, obviously there were times this was more evident than other but overall the atmosphere was friendly and accepting.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was made very clear from the start where we would be and what we would be doing, training plans ensured we could check that we were on track, allowing us to push for additional training where required.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Lidl invested significant time and resources in our training and development, we were sent on courses to improve our communication and interpersonal skills, something i know will be useful in my future career.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • This placement has helped me to understand what i would like to do after graduation, the employment prospects at Lidl are very appealing and i hope to return to the business.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • there was a very good social scene between fellow placement students, however as we were spread around the country we only met a handful of times. the time spent at head office was greatly enjoyable as we were able to spend more time in a social situation.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • i was lucky to be living and working in a student city, meaning socialising and living cost were relatively cheap, allowing me to save money to be used in my final year.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again, due to living in a city densely populated by students, the nightlife and social atmosphere was very good.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 3/5
