The Role
Great oppurtunity to enhance my knowledge, and the company were very considerate and helpful towards my learning.
Many of the staff made good efforts to get to know you. Also various social events helped everyone to get along.
Great help. Especially towards my university work (Eg: report and presentations). Also in work - a good structure and set up allowed efficient, yet calm work load.
At times, a lot of work might be present, but it was never forced upon you. You were set reasonable work loads and were given the chance to pick up more if you were able to, and so it was a perfect balance assuming you could manage yourself!
I was given plenty of independance during my placement and hence my own responsibilities - however - it is not the kind of placement that allowed you to 'run the show' as responibilities were fed down to you from the appropriate members of staff.
Both skills for life, and skills for my degree specialism (chemistry). It was a fantastic insight into work life - and also chemistry work. I have gained a good set of skills which will assist me in my future.
The Company
GSK had a large group of student placements and hence there were plenty of people in a similar situation to me. This meant the work atmosphere was generally good and easy to get along with.
Very well. The company has a good structure and set up for students. You are always kept engaged.
The company invested a lot of time towards making sure we were sufficiently trained to work for 1 year with them. Also, they gave me great development chances towards my university work.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Healthcare from home
Unfortunately - the current economic climate means that jobs are not greatly abundant
The Culture
As plenty of other students were working at the site, social events were abundant!
The area was fairly cheap and socialising was not an issue.
In the area, it was poor. But a simple 20min train into london meant the possibilities were endless.
Not many.
