  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This summer internship covered every possible area including investment banking to back office roles to front office roles in both public and private spheres. I enjoyed the internship because the other interns who were career driven and motivated individuals. Being surrounded by them and networking with employees was an invaluable experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Barclays did a great job in making the interns feel valued. Everything was provided such as accommodation, and the employees I interacted with did take their time to answer my questions and to have a chat with me. I felt very comfortable to ask any question and through that gained good tips for getting a position in the company.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • One of the best part of the internship was the opportunity to work shadow an employee and observe how they tackle their daily tasks. The man I worked with was very friendly and explained many things in detail. He encouraged me to ask questions and gave my valuable tips from which I will definitely benefit from

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think I will not gain much from the information that I have learned during my internship as they were quite company and industry specific. However, I think next time when I’ll be thrown into such an unknown situation I will definitely cope better. In hindsight, I guess I have improved my communication skills because I was more or less forced to network with other people and I am generally more shy.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone seemed very friendly and open to meet new people. This has made socialising for a shy person like me very easy and to meet new people. Employees even approached you and seek to get to know you better. It was a pleasant experience and the atmosphere had good vibes only. Although it was professional all the time, there was no feeling of pressure or competition at any time.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Well structured. From the beginning to the end everything was very well organised and our weeks were packed with presentations, workshops or networking events to keep us busy and to enable us to get the most out of the few days that we have at Barclays. This means being busy from morning till late night but which is a plus in my view.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company is so invested in personal development and committed to being the best they can be. It appears that the company are willing to invest a lot of time and energy into you. All the employees appear to get on very well despite not working on the same team and were so friendly and approachable, setting an extremely high expectation of what all staff will be like at Barclays. The way the staff acted with us alone, made me want to work in the Barclays environment - it seems a very enjoyable place to work.

  • Without hesitation I would recommend the summer internship of Barclays to a friend who is interested in accounting. I got the job and it paid off in terms of personal development, to get a feel what it is like to be an accountant and the company culture at Barclays. Especially the atmosphere was great and hence, overall a great week.

There were also a partner dinner, were even more employees of different service lines joined us as well as the partner allowing us to get a real sense of what each different service line does.
