About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the vacation scheme at Linklaters. The difference in the work culture and approach to a particular task as compared to a domestic law work was particularly compelling. The social events and fun activities provided us a lot of opportunities to explore different facets of life.
The constant work sessions, fun activities, and open door policy were instrumental in ensuring that I felt valued during my time, The fact that Senior Partners took time out of their busy schedule to talk to us about their lives and the work at the firm was indicative of the extent to which the firm went in making us feel at home.
The support system was excellent. The principles at the seat were very helpful and provided regular insights into not just the department, but also the firm. The buddies were also excellent. They were in touch even after the stint at a particular stint which was helpful as you could receive insights into different areas and aspects of the firm.
I think that the experience at the firm was very helpful in making me more comfortable in meeting new people from different cultures. The time spent there taught me valuable skills and brought a significant change in my attitude. I have become more open to varying opinions and I appreciate the value of teamwork a lot more.
The Company
There could have been a slight improvement in the sense that the activities could have been planned in such a way that we would get additional continuous time at our desks. With activities planned throughout the day we get to spend only an hour or two at a stretch at our desks which can be very distracting and unproductive at times.
The general atmosphere was terrific. It was my first experience of working in such a big office. It was interesting to observe that even though most people are usually working in small teams and have their own groups, there are sufficient opportunities to get to know the other people who have the same values and same work ethic.
Though I certainly understood what it would like to work at the firm, there were things that were not entirely clear. But I don't think there is too much that can be done about it. There are some things that you can understand only by doing them and there are tasks that a vacation scheme student cannot be involved with due to various concerns.
The scheme was extremely helpful in understanding the culture of the company. The open door policy and the importance of team work were two stand out features of the company culture for me. The culture of the place is personally very important for me in choosing to work there and I certainly think that I found the culture very appealing.
Everything Else
All living and travel expenses were taken care of by the firm. This includes visa fees, flight tickets, airport transfer, accommodation and miscellaneous expenses. In addition, a stipend was paid after the conclusion of the vacation scheme. I would certainly say that I was paid and reimbursed adequately for the experience.
The networking and social opportunities were brilliant. These events were one of the highlights of the vacation scheme. There was something for everyone. In addition to the events planned by the graduate recruitment team, we were also invited to the events that were being conducted by individual teams and departments.
