About You
A really fantastic three weeks. Very well organised, everyone was really friendly, and I learnt a lot. As a non-law student I left the vacation scheme knowing that a career in commercial law is for me.
I was automatically given lots of really interesting work to get involved with. I felt as if I was genuinely making a contribution to the cases the firm was handling.
The partners and associates in the teams I sat withwere always happy to help with any questions I had. You are allocated a Trainee Mentor throughout the three weeks who is also there to help answer any questions or address any problems you have throughout the scheme.
I currently study History so the information I learnt wasn't directly applicable to my degree. However, a lot of what i learnt will be applicable to the GDL and beyond.
The Company
Very well structured. We were given a comprehensive timetable of all that we were doing throughout the scheme at the beginning of the first week. It was great that we got to sit in three different departments in each of the three different weeks; it helped to give greater insight into different parts of the firm.
Everyone was extremely friendly and always happy to help.
A lot. There were loads of different case study and commercial awareness sessions which were great for personal development.
Getting involved with actual cases the firm was involved with helped to give me an insight into the work of a commercial lawyer. As an undergraduate there is only so much work you can be expected to do, but I believe I was given a really great insight into what I would be asked to do if I was a trainee at the firm.
The talk given by the Managing Partner of the London office (Susan Bright) was particularly informative on the culture of the firm.
I left knowing that a career in commercial law is for me.
Everything Else
The pay from the scheme more than covered the costs of living in London for three weeks.
Several events held every week.
The events always had lots of trainees, associates, partners, and members of graduate recruitment in attendance. This was great because it meant that I could talk to lots of different people in different areas of the firm.
This was mentioned in passing at a number of talks and by a few members of the firm.
Absolutely.
