The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the year, it was challenging yet rewarding.
I felt very valued by all staff members which made moving around on my placement easy.
My Area Manager mentor was extremely helpful in any situation and was always available to call or text if an issue arose.
Each day was full with tasks to be done, this was due to my role changing through out the year and constantly learning new information.
Aldi, gives a lot of responsibility from the vey beginning. As a placement student I was managing large teams on a daily basis when in store, as well as being given the keys too the store, and access to large sums of cash. When doing my Area manager shadowing again I was responsible for large teams in multiple stores.
During the year, I learnt a lot of management techniques and how to organise my team effectively, therefore I can transfer these skills into coursework projects.
The Company
During the placement year I spent very little time within an office, as I moved around through out the region to different stores. However the time I did spend in an office was very enjoyable each department that I spent time with were happy to help in all situations.
The placement was well organised I was given an itinerary at the veining of the year that set out where I would be based and the duration of time. I was also given a clear set of tasks and instructions as well as regular updates during the year.
I was given the opportunity to attend numerous courses for personal development through out the year, in which I was able to the way I manage people and my self. I also attended courses such as first aid.

I have been offered the opportunity to go back after I have graduated for a final interview with my Managing Director, of which I am extremely interested and excited to hopefully continue my employment with Aldi.
The Culture
Working with Aldi you need to have a passion for retail, and often there is minimal time to have social time with co-workers and other placement student. However there were a few occasions where social which were enjoyable and good for networking.
As I moved around each area had a different cost of living, however Aldi was generous enough to help me when I did move to find accommodation.
I did not choose to go out as I thought it was unnecessary.
There were multiple opportunities to get involved in events with Aldi, specifically charitable events.
