The Role
I really enjoyed my 11 weeks internship. It has been an excellent opportunity for me to learn new concepts and methods directly on the field, and to gain an insight into how a successful company works. I also made many valuable connections inside the company, which enrich my professional background and improve my future employability.
Although I was an intern, my colleagues at Arm made me feel fully part of the team, and I was glad to be given tasks that matched my interests, along with being useful for the company. The established employees always invited me and the other interns to the most important meetings. The environment in the office was very friendly and welcoming.
I was surprised by the constant attention and guidance I received from both my manager and my colleagues. I was always given precise guidance on what to do, without my manager ever neglecting our 1 to 1 meetings to discuss about my progress and to give me feedback. It was clear that it was the whole team's interest to help me learn and improve my skills.
I was glad to have freedom in organizing my work as I wanted, with my manager never putting too much pressure on me with strict deadlines. Because my work would have been published at the end of the internship, I was positively encouraged to give my best. This made me feel responsible for my final product, without feeling too stressed about it.
I worked as a Software intern and I am currently studying Electrical & ELectronic engineering. The internship gave me a deep insight into the software side of technology, whereas my university course mainly teaches me about hardware. I am sure this will prove to be highly valuable for my future studies since I extended my knowledge beyond what it is expected for my course.
The Company
People in my office were very friendly, welcoming and willing to help me from the day I came to the day I left. The environment was so good that I felt happy when going to work in the morning. Despite their incredible academic and professional capabilities, we established very good relations and we took part to social events together as a team.
I think that my team and the company did a very good job in organising the 2017 internship programme. On day one, HR organised a talk to explain to us what we could expect in the following weeks and how we could get involved in the extra projects and activities. Furthermore, my manager wrote a document for me explaining my intern project, and scheduled weekly meetings to answer my questions and clarify any doubt.

At Arm they value your presence and your work for the company, and they are happy to have you back if you did productive work during your placement and were willing to be useful for your team and the company. Future employment prospects are really good since I am planning to do more internships at Arm.
The Culture
Special thanks go to the Human Resources group for the amazing work done in organising social events for interns, graduates, and established employees. My internship experience would not have been that nice if I did not meet up with so many brilliant people, and with some of them I became really good friends.
Cambridge is a very lively city and there is always something for everyone. It is essentially a student city, so there are quite a few clubs and bars where to go out. The city council organises many events for family and groups of friends, free to attend, at the main parks and in the many public areas around the city. Cambridge itself is not a very big city, so nights out tend to be repetitive after a couple of months.
Arm puts a lot of effort in involving all employees to volunteering events and extra activities. Regarding volunteering, HR holds presentations to make sure all staff knows about the various opportunities available and how we can make the difference. There are also many fitness activities organised in conjunction with Cambridge Gym, and there is a free company gym open 24/7.
