The Role
Considering the leadership academy only lasted for three days the extent to which people got on and helped each other was outstanding. Everybody knew that each individiual could bring something to the table and hence, allowed them to show this.
Kelly was by far and away the best mentor i could have hoped for. She did everything she could to push my group along and allow us to gain the maximum we could from the academy.
I don't feel that the leadership academy was about responsibility, more about discovering and improving the skills you have. Yes there were times when you had some responsibility but i feel as though the purpose of the event was more to allow you to develop your leadership skills, rather than to show how you cope with responsibility.
The skills learnt at the academy are ones which will be invaluable through the rest of life. Any area of life where a team structure is present i will be able to use what i learnt to excel.
The Company
I don't know of anyone who did not enjoy the experience. Everybody engaged themselves in every situation and i felt as though having so many people around you enjoying themselves made it even better.
EY are the only firm i know of who do something like this and it shows that they genuinely want you to be successful in life. They gave information and skills which will be of value to any firm not just EY and i applaude them for this selflessness.
The Culture
From ice breakers to drumming workshops everybody had a fantastic time in the evenings. However the key to the social side of this event was that everyone was getting to know each other well, even through the more serious day time activities.
This question doesn't really apply to the leadership academy since it was held at a private hotel. However, all eveing activities were of great fun.
