The Role
This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I felt I developed beyond my expectations. My manager went above and beyond to make my time memorable and fun whilst getting loads from the opportunity.
My colleagues always made me feel extremely valued and I felt I had the chance to work on other things if I spoke up and requested this. During the 12 weeks I really felt like I had accomplished a lot.
Alongside having my line manager, who supported me throughout with regularly 1 to 1s, reviews and constant catch ups we were all offered the chance to have a mentor and a buddy. I felt it was enough just having a mentor in my position as they helped with extra stuff and provided support outside of my team.
I always had things to do and never sat around wondering what to do.
From day 1 I felt like I had a lot of responsibility and was in charge of contacting external people and representing the company straight away.
I really think doing this internship will help me to get a Graduate job in the future. I think this has developed so many transferable skills, with endless workshops and guidance on things such as LinkedIn, CV and Interview skills and presentation skills on offer for the interns.
The Company
The general atmosphere was amazing! Everyone was so friendly and I really felt the support from day 1 and everyone was so appreciative of the interns and wanted to help us in our development in anyway they could.
I think mine was sufficiently set up, however I know other interns did not have the same experience and felt they did not have enough work in their teams.
The company really invested in this and gave us so many opportunities such as workshops in LinkedIn, CV and interview skills and presentation workshops. My manager from day 1 as well always really wanted to help me develop the skills that I wanted to develop.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I think the company provide lots of opportunities especially for entry level roles but not that many spaces on their graduate scheme.
The Culture
There are about 30 interns during the summer therefore we always have lunch together, drinks on a Thursday etc. I also went to the summer party for our department.
Staff discounts at local pubs means that despite being in London it is not so bad. Also because we were unpaid we do get a lunch allowance that goes a long way in the staff canteen. Hummingbird bakery also provide CRUK with £1 drinks in the morning!
There is a spoons next door and the staff get discounts at the local pubs which is really nice!
Not so many apart from the occasional summer party/ Christmas party. However for birthdays quite often the teams go out for a meal and celebrate with cake.
