The Role
The Ernst and Young Insight Day is such a good experience. They make you feel so comfortable and welcome there, but the tasks aren't all easy! I'd definitely recommend this day to anybody thinking of applying for internships / jobs with financial services firms.
We were all treated as adults throughout the day, never patronised, and given responsibility as if we really id work for Ernst and Young.
They explained very well how the day would work, what time we had different tasks to do, and we understood our deadlines. The rest was left up to us! It was challenging but exciting, and I am so glad I applied.
We were busy with activities all day, but we always had just enough time to complete our tasks. We had plenty of time for refreshments throughout the day too, which was vital to keeping alert!
The client meetings were completely in our own hands, we had to go and meet them from reception and bring them into the room. We set out a chair and refreshments for them, and the supervisors had no input during the meeting. We were treated as if we really were working for Ernst and Young.
The feedback from the Insight Day was very good. Quite an eye-opener. I learned things about myself that I didn't kow before. The experience of being put out of my comfort zone was a great one to have, as this is what it's going to feel like many times in my future career.
The Company
The supervisors were great characters! Very happy and bubbly people who made you feel like you wanted to get involved. I felt surprisingly comfortable considering I knew nobody else there.
We had enough time to do all the tasks they had set out for the day, but also had time for a tour of the ninth floor of the Ernst and Yound building where you get the most amazing views across London. All the supervisors knew what was going on and when, it felt very well organised.
After the Insight Day, they told us that we would be fast-tracked to interview stage should we decide to apply for any internships / graduate placement with them in the future which is a real bonus! It felt like all of our hard work throughout the day had paid off, even though the day was not set up as an assessment. They gave us the opportunity to ask any questions about the interview process etc. to give us the best chance of succeeding.

Ernst and Young came across as an amazing company to be a part of. Their building is very impressive and all the employees were very nice to us. The Insight Day allows me to be fast-tracked to interview, which makes me much more inclined to apply to them for a job!
The Culture
Hardly anybody at the event knew each other prior to the Insight Day but everybody was willing to chat and get to know one another. The first activity of the day was based around getting to know the other students there by finding people in the group with certain qualities, like a personal attributes bingo game.
We were only there for the day and all food and drink was free. We spent no money during the day, and even travel costs were reimbursed.
N/A - only a one-day placement
