The Role
I loved my experience at Expedia. The work was always interesting, yet challenging enough for me to improve. I worked with kind, thoughtful colleagues who filled me with vast knowledge that I will take back with me to my final year of university. The overall work life was outstanding with flexible hours, good parties/events and a friendly office atmosphere.
I felt valued by my colleagues by them simply treating me like a full-time employee. The work assigned to me will be at the same difficulty that they will pick up. My thoughts and opinions always get respected with them also seeking my opinion on critical matters that can impact a project.
There was support from management if needed. If I wanted to have a private meeting with my manager it can be easily arranged.
There was constant work to be completed or modified. The nature of the project and my team was that we always like to improve on what we have done before. This means that work is in constant cycle. I did not experience any cases where I was overwhelmed with work.
I had the responsibility to do tasks that full-time engineers were assigned to do autonomously. So this means that I had complete freedom picking up any task.
The skills developed during my placement year were phenomenal. Technically, I learnt more in my placement year than I learnt in my last two years of university. I furthered my knowledge in existing skills and learnt many new and exciting technologies. This will definitely help me going into my final year as I am a lot stronger individual technically.
The Company
The atmosphere was always friendly. Everyone was friendly regardless of where you are in the office. This is definitely one of Expedia's key strengths as that the atmosphere is always positive.

Working from home
Employment prospects are very appealing. There will be a chance to come back and work with colleagues that I have bonded with over the year and carry on working on exciting tasks. Expedia also offers a vast range of mouth-watering benefits. This ranges from private health care to gym membership allowance!
The Culture
The cost of living around the office was definitely affordable. I had the flexibility to enjoy the local restaurants often. There is a wide range of pubs to enjoy from with good prices.
There are many pubs to enjoy but there are no significant night clubs.
