The Role
The work placement opened my eyes to a lot, a real in-sight on how the industry works and the importance of competences you learn. I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would recommend it to anyone!
My colleagues treated me as a fellow worker and not as an intern. This was good because I felt like a part of the team! Saying that, because I was treated as an equal, my work was also expected to be at the standards of an equal which was great as you are pushed to work hard and to a good standard.
The layout of the office was perfect, I could tap my manager or any colleague on the shoulder and ask for help if needed. I also set up regular meetings to review progress and see how I am getting on and if i need help with any of my projects.
At first it was extremely slow due to security checks and log in access. It then picked up a lot. You find days were you have a lot of work and are kept busy and also days where you do not have much and need to pace yourself.
I was given the perfect amount of responsibility. Not underwhelming or overwhelming. You would be given big tasks that NEED to be completed by a certain time but you are given fair time to do it so you are not stressed.
The skills and competences learnt are invaluable to life in general. Team work, communication, technical knowledge for University studies, time management, responsibility, organising and confidence. All are developed a great amount.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was fun. Everybody would be hard working and getting their jobs done but still had time to joke around and make the work place lively. The friendly atmosphere makes you happy to come to work.
The organisation was not the best, The start was all over the place and the managers at first did not know what tasks I needed to do across the year and gave me projects they thought were relevant across the year.
The company sent me on as many training courses as I wanted! I could enrol myself or ask to be enrolled and my manager would always say yes. including personal development training as well as technical training, The invested a lot of time and money!!

If an individual is interested in energy production or supply chain or HR as an example, the future prospects are extremely good. There is scope for progression in all directions and many sites for a person to transfer to if they wanted to.
The Culture
The interns and apprentices were all connected and a group chat was made where we could organise socials. Everyone was extremely friendly.
The cost of living was not cheap but also not too expensive. It was a fair price, the social aspect was good as there were plenty of places to go and nice surrounding areas for socials.
The night-life was not the best. To have a good night life you would have had to travel around 20 minutes to the next town.
Opportunities of activities outside of work were always available and advertised. It was up to the individual to make the effort to attend!
