About You
The placement gave an excellent insight into the day to day working of the firm and also highlighted the core values of the firm. Being able to go to London for some insight was key to this.
The senior staff were very reassuring about the importance of our role as vacation schemers - the next generation of lawyers.
We received a good amount of guidance from the graduate recruitment team and surrounding lawyers.
The opportunities throughout the placement to have feedback is invaluable in understanding your own strengths and weaknesses. The things I learned about myself on the placement can be carried through in my career.
The Company
The insight was very well structured, the combination of visiting London for a week and having 2 weeks in your home office.
The atmosphere was good and all the other candidates were like minded but with an interesting take on things, the scheme is very sociable so the great atmosphere carried on after work.
Due to the short length of the scheme there wasn't much opportunity for personal training and development, but I feel assured that if there was the firm would have invested in me.
The vacation scheme gives you a very accurate representation of what it would be like to work for DLA Piper.
Meeting senior people within the firm and talking to lawyers across numerous offices really demonstrated the consistency of the culture at DLA Piper and it is clear that everyone holds the same core values.
The numerous very honest talks from practicing lawyers helped affirm my decision to practice law.
Everything Else
I believe I was paid fairly for my time at DLA Piper.
The firm were very encouraging about seizing networking opportunities and ensured that there were plenty of chances to mix with others in the firm or on the vacation scheme.
Very good. There were numerous social events planned whilst we were in London and trainees at our home office really made an effort to mix with us.
I learned that at DLA the lawyers often get involved in charitable activities.
I would highly recommend the DLA Piper insight to a friend, it was an excellent experience.
