The Role
The internship was a very enjoyable experience - it was interesting and challenging, and I enjoyed the responsibility given by my colleagues. My colleagues were also very friendly which made the programme even better. I would highly recommend it to anybody
I felt very valued by my colleagues. There was interactions from all levels of staff, from junior to senior. Everybody took an interest in me and my work, and I felt like one of the team very quickly. We also had a team night out which was enjoyable.
Rothschild's buddy / mentor scheme is very good at providing support during your internship. My buddy was fantastic and we got along very well - she helped me if ever I had an issue and I never felt uncomfortable asking a question, regardless of what it was. My mentor gave me more structured feedback on improvements etc on a periodic basis. In general though everybody was willing to help or offer advice if I asked. There was times that my buddy wasn't in the office and the other team members would happily sit down and explain anything.
Workload varied but I always had something to do. Over the course of the 10 weeks I was set work by the majority of my team so I had many different projects and challenges.
I was surprised by the level of responsibility given. After a few weeks I was working on live marketing books / valuation papers etc that were going out to clients. I also worked with a variety of colleagues, both junior and senior which was a good experience.
My studies aren't directly related to finance but the soft skills will certainly stay with me. One thing I certainly developed is an attention to detail - everything has to be right here, from fonts, sizes, text alignment etc. The skills will assist me in my future career in Investment Banking.
The Company
Good balance between work and social. There was occasional chatter but everybody was there to focus on their work. The office had a friendly atmosphere
Programme was very well organised. We had 1 week of technical training to equip us with the skills necessary to make a beneficial impact to our teams from the start. We also had various intern events such as a cocktail masterclass and charity fundraising
We had 1 week of training by external providers. My team were more than willing to explain concepts further. I was also shown how to do more advance tasks such as modelling so I could assist on further projects - hence my team were willing to invest their time in me.

Successful interns are offered a place on the graduate scheme.
The Culture
Interns generally socialised on a Friday and at events set up by HR. The social aspect depended on how much work each individual had on
I wasn't based in London so it was cheaper for me. The London interns will have faced higher costs
Good
One activity outside work was fundraising - we had to raise as much money as possible to assist pupils from a disadvantaged background to enable them to have a better chance at going to university
