The Role
Very interesting project working on the biggest infrastructure project (HS2) currently taking place in the UK
I definitely felt like a valued member of the team as I was given meaningful tasks.
Support and guidance was on offer whenever and where ever it was needed
This placement wasn’t as busy as previous placements, but that is to be expected given it was the enabling works for HS2 and main works construction had not started
I was given a number of proper tasks where I was interacting with a number of different people at a variety of different levels.
The skills learnt from my placement, namely communication, listening and presentation will undoubtedly help me in all aspects of life
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was good. Considering it was a joint-venture here was no divide between companies and everyone was friendly
The organisation could’ve been slightly better, it took a few weeks before I was on the payroll system and the laptop that was ordered from IT did not come straight away.
The company invited me to company training days as well as STEM opportunities all of which I benefited from.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I am keen to join LOR on their graduate development programme as they have a clear progression system in place
The Culture
I had a great time working with the engineering team, going out for weekly Friday breakfasts and occasionally drinks after work
Given I was living at home and getting the train into Birmingham the cost of living for me ws extremely cheap
Although I didn’t go out clubbing, the pubs and bars in and around Birmingham city centre were great
Unfortunately I finished just as the five aside football team and cricket match was set up, had I have still be on placement I would definitely have gotten involved
