    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed working with the company. Worked with them for 3 years in a row so know their system. The trips to London allow you to meet other people on the scheme. Always busy and the people who work there were great.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • By the end of the placement i had my own sections and responsibilities. Some people would come to me with questions of specific areas. Everyone was happy to help me with my development and encouraged me to come back.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Managers and supervisors were super supportive. Told me if there was things i could improve but also helped me complete the development forms required during the placement. Encouraged me to come back after I finished University, or even during university.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied on a day to day basis due to the irregularities found within this work. As i was in my 3rd year of placement i was given more responsibility which helped me to stay busy. As the placement progressed i was given more work and the project got underway creating more roles.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During the placement i was given a lot of responsibility on site. I already knew the on site rules and knew how to use the equipment so i was able to get to work straight away. Some other people on the placement were given more responsibility, but to the point where they could not complete it to the needed quality.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • 3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The project I was working on had just started so there was a bit of tension at the start as things were just being set up and people were under pressure. Many of the more senior people in the company came to work in the on site office which made the atmosphere more formal than what is usually found in a site office. However, the people who worked there were helpful and not rude.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I only found out the location of my placement 2 weeks before I started. However, once my placement started everything seemed fine. The information for the second trip to London with the placement was released late, the form required the information to be returned at a date that was earlier than its release.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If you get a placement with the company, after university you do not need to go through the usual interview and assessment centre routes to get onto their graduate scheme. Instead you only have to attend a short 'interview' (this is more just a chat about how your placement went) and write a report. You are more likely to get on the grad scheme through doing a placement than applying externally.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was many events held during my placement for the company. However, these seemed more catered to those working in the office as the start time was often before site hours finished. Within the people on site there was a bi-monthly curry night which i attended. An effort was also made to go for breakfast together every friday morning.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The duration of the placement (9 weeks) made it a little hard to get involved in activities as they were booked far in advance and so the ones being planned during my time there were for after my placement had finished. However, you could still attend these events after you finish if you had wanted too.
