The Role
It was very enjoyable and I was given plenty of experience and responsibility from very early on. The people were friendly and always willing to give me a helping hand when I had any issues. The job was also interesting as I had chances to travel around the country to work on different clients. This was a really rewarding experience.
I was introduced to many people early on and so made plenty of new friends. However many people I did not get to meet for a long time due to the nature of audit work. With everyone working on different clients ect. You do not go to the office that often however I think the company makes the best effort possible to help you settle in and meet people and as the year goes on there are many chances to network.
The training provided was excellent. We were given training in the audit software as well as things like excel. This is vital to be able to do the job properly. There are also training days throughout the year which help cement your knowledge. But to be honest the best training comes on the job and during the year you get plenty of client contact which enables you to pick things up quickly.
Depends on which time of the year. During busy period where there are audit deadlines it gets extremely busy. Other times you are still busy but there is less pressure so you could describe the non busy times as more chilled out. But apart from that you are always pretty busy.
Lots of responsibility from day 1. In week one we were on a client site doing audit work. And you get opportunities to gain work in other departments of the firm for example, tax and advisory. It is very hands on and you can learn a lot in a short space of time. As well as this as you progress you get to have a go at more complicated areas of the audit. This builds your knowledge and confidence.
It has helped me in terms of time management and organisation definitely. I will also be aided in any audit modules I do at uni. Using things like excel effectively will also be much easier.
The Company
I worked from the Bristol office and It was a good atmosphere. You were able to talk to anyone. People were still very hardworking but it was not at all intimidating. I enjoyed working in the office. I did not go much as I was always on client sites. But it was always a good place to work. It's important to note that even the upper hierarchy were approachable, which is something that is unique to GT and other firms are less welcoming in this regard.
It was very organised. Training was good. Your rota was done well in advance so you could organise you personal life around your work life. It was well organised.
We do not do any professions exams or qualifications on the placement. However there was plenty of training provided. The company would send us to a mannor owned by the company in high Wycombe for days for even a week at a time. Here we learned important audit knowledge and were able to network and meet new people. I would say the firm invests a lot in us placement students as they want you to come back with a good knowledge base and a good impression of the firm.

Very good once you qualify you can either continue in the same department or you can gain new experiences in another department.
The Culture
This was not amazing for me personally as due to the nature of audit work it's hard for everyone to be in the same place but I know that things such as an annual football tournament is organised by the firm.
Bristol has a relatively high cost of living as it is an up and coming place. Rent on average is between £500 and £600. However it is a nice city. Socialising is also more expensive than other cities but it's still good in my opinion.
The nightlife is very good I didn't have any complaints.
Not that many to be honest but the firm does try to organise things and it may be that people you meet are up for stuff.
