    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship is very well structured, and the duties given to interns are great for personal development goals. I enjoyed my internship and the culture at the firm is fantastic. Moreover, interns had the chance to work out of the office. For example, I did charity works and team challenges during the day to day working.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The colleagues are very approachable and kind. They provide advises that I would carry on improving when I am back to university. Furthermore, I was given more projects which were great to advance my understanding of the business. There are opportunities to walk out of the comfort zone. I very much appreciate the support of my managers and colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I appreciate the support of my managers very much. They assess interns' performance on a weekly basis and provide valuable feedbacks that I will talk away to improve every week. Despite the busy work themselves had, I was hands on to do researches with their guidance and participated in various team meetings.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • 4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The responsibility was immense, and I felt not only stretched myself but also learned a lot in as short as two months’ time. I was given more projects which were very interesting and gave me the opportunity to walk out of my comfort zone. At the same time, I appreciate the support of my managers and colleagues.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Before this internship, I developed most of my skills through university projects and various activities. I acquired technical skills and communication skills. With the understanding of the area, I need to improve further; I have a clear goal of the skill set I need to develop in the university by taking relevant courses.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was great in both of my offices. I moved my office in the middle of the program. I joined another team in a different business part, but still within the division. The atmosphere was great. The culture wasn't intense nor competing as if some interns would expect for a career in banking. It's easy to ask questions to your colleague.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall internship is well set. I understanded what commercial banking is about and developed more interested in the graduate program. The rotation in the middle of the internship was excellent, that interns can see different lines of the business. The introduction of the internship could be better; however, the recruitment team did a great job to allow every intern to participate.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As mentioned above in the internship program design, the internship is a pipeline to the graduate program at HSBC. With that in mind, they invest in interns as full-time staff. I have participated in a variety of events to understand the history of the firm as well as courses to know the underlining policies in the industry.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of the day to day work. As a group of interns, we participated in charitable projects and out of office day to support a charity. It felt great to help people directly. In addition, the charitable project is throughout the internship program, so always opportunity to participate.
