The Role
I did not really know what to expect for my placement and I found that I enjoyed going to work each day.
On average I felt like everyone was very welcoming and interested in what you had to say. Occasionally I felt less valued but as far as I am concerned that was reasonable as sometimes managers had deadlines and so were slightly stressed.
The team that I worked with for my placement were great and when I was struggling with something they were more than happy to help out. In terms of guidance by management/ my supervisor I would say the support was less so but mainly because other members of my team were able to help with most of my quieries.
On average I would say I was kept very busy with work and i was given a lot of personal responsibilities. Sometimes I would find myself doing some small tasks at home which is fine. However, if there was other work I needed to do such as Feedback or WBL's then the team were more than happy for me to prioritise what needed to be done which was helpful to me.
I feel the level of responsibility I was given was high due to the fact I had the personal task of looking after and editing a Quarterly review which could not yet be seen by the public. I would take this document home each day and return early the following morning should anyone else need to look at it. I was given deadlines which I had to meet without flexibility, due to the fact that higher management or the client were expecting tasks to be done by a certain date.
It was a fantastic experience to see working life in a leading organisation though the skills I used will not necessarily assist me in my degree studies. I am sure when I return to the firm for a more substantial amount of time the training I receive and skills I develop will be much more significant.
The Company
I was mainly based at the client for the duration of my placement. However the time I did spend in the office was very enjoyable in particular with the seating arrangements. Using the 'hot desk' system it allowed me to speak to different people each day.
Overall I feel for me personally, the internship was set up very well and I was always kept busy.
Apart from the initial training we received in our induction week I would not necessarily say the firm invest any extra personal development or training in you. However, in all fairness this does come mainly when you are working on a client and you are able to pick up knowledge as you go along.

Company Parties/Events
I have already received a Graduate Job with Ernst & Young and I am looking forwards to starting in September 2012.
The Culture
While working I was able to get involved with many things like drinks socials and football matches which was great. The social scene amongst my fellow placement students was also good and we still continue to meet up to date.
Yes! The cost of living was free as I lived from home but did spend money on socialising in the area although that is expected.
Leeds had a great night scene and it would have been nice to explore the nightlife more if events were set up to do so.
I was made aware of opportunities outside of work to get involved in but it was often the case that I could not always attend them. It would be good if there was some kind of calendar which showed you all the events you could get involved with on a daily basis and so then you could pick and choose which events you attend.
