The Role
Good, varied work although long hours.
Settled in well, was welcomed and supported
Was assigned a buddy who I worked alongside for the duration of the placement
Had a good balance of work, although there were a few times where there wasn't much to do
Was given increased responsibility throughout the placement, including being assigned sections of the site
The skills I gained were not particularly applicable to my degree, but they were good skills for general development
The Company
Generally a good atmosphere in the office, although there were times when tempers frayed
Well organised with good support from HR, unfortunately my placement was earlier than the others run by Costain, so I didn't recieve some of the information in time
Due to having a short placement, I did not attend any training days or courses, although Costain do send employees onto them
Good prospects working in a large-scale national engineering company
The Culture
Few opportunities for socialising outside work as most colleagues commuted some distance to work
Relatively cheap area but still within London so generally higher costs
Relatively poor
Nothing really available
