The Role
Some aspects of the job were enjoyable but my placement was not very varied so it was hard to keep motivated at times.
People were always happy to help if you had problems and I felt that my opinions and suggestions were taken into consideration when working on program teams.
I had to continue to ask for support if it was needed, my supervisor was not very good at helping me so often I asked other colleagues instead.
It varied a lot, at the start of my placement I had nothing to do. Some days in the middle of my placement I was really busy and then towards the end I didnt have much work.
I was given a lot of responsibility in planning and interpreting my data, but I always had to check with my supervisor before starting something new or writing up my conclusions.
I definitely think the skills I learnt during my placement were invaluable. Mainly communication and time management skills.
The Company
Depended on how many people were in. Some people in the office and the lab were really chatty, others were not.
The placement was well organised although I didnt get to start any lab work until two months into my placement which was awful!
We had the same personal development training as the full time members of staff.

There are currently no jobs available in R&D at GSK so there are very poor future prospects within the company.
The Culture
There was so many students it was like still being at uni so there was lots of things to do after work and at weekends, I made some really good friends whilst on placement.
Expensive, renting houses was much more expensive than it is at uni, also it can be difficult to find houses and there was no help from GSK.
Only a few places to go out.
A few but not many if you didnt have a car.
