The Role
I very much found it a useful year to make me aware of how a global business works
At first it is always hard to gain respect, but by delivering projects to a good quality and on time, I quickly gained respect and trust of colleagues.
My management was very good. When I needed assistance, they were there for advice but they also gave me the space to make and learn from decisions and mistakes which is often the best way to learn.
The first couple of months it was a shadowing role meaning that it was slow at times. However, it is a vital part of a placement, but following that, I was busy to an extent that I was working long hours but this is also the best way to learn how to balance work.
An incredible amount that I was surprised at. I was able to manage my own contract as well as a variety of smaller projects.
The placement will be completely useful. There is no doubt that I learnt a huge amount from the placement and skills that I will be able to take further in my career.
The Company
As it was an open plan office, the atmosphere was generally great. People were able to access people for queries and meetings were easy to arrange with people working in the office. There was a good level of friendly banter as well which makes you feel a little more relaxed in the professional and high pressure environment.
Very well. I was very lucky in that I arrived and everyone was expecting me and there was a comprehensive induction plan in place for me to follow.
A huge amount of investment is put within the placement and graduate budget with us doing a couple of training modules where we were put up in hotels overnight and conference rooms were laid on for us.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Extremely appealing. Graduates within DSC tend to progress very fast with a lot of time and investment put into developing the people that have the potential to be senior management of the future. As a result of the good performance throughout the year, I was able to secure my job with them on graduation.
The Culture
It was a very good social scene with different parties throughout the year.
I worked in London so the cost of living is extortionate meaning that sharing with other placement students was vital.
Very good!
There were lots of areas to get involved including football, CSR projects and after work drinks.
