    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • From the beginning where we had a 3 day induction in Birmingham through to the final ball the time flew by which is always a sign of a good time!

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Having feedback forms returned for each project you worked on made you realise the value of the work you did. All of our colleagues were supportive and cheerful and somehow made tax enjoyable which many might find an impossible task. For any of the projects I was given my colleagues made me aware of the reasons why I had to do them and how that would help them which made me feel useful and valued.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was never a moment where you couldn't ask someone for clarification or help. The major bonus of doing the summer internship in tax is that it's not a 'busy' time for the tax team so they had time to go over projects and explain concepts.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Everyday I had something to do and it got to the point where I was having to turn away work because so many different colleagues had provided me with jobs. There's a real variety in the work that you do so it never got boring.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It didn't feel like I had a lot of responsibility for many of my tasks as they were usually smaller pieces of work to help along with bigger projects. Although some people may liked to have had more challenging jobs I felt that the way they eased you into the scheme suited my lack of experience in a business environment.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My research skills, presentation skills and phone skills all improved immensely as a result of the projects given. In terms of presentation skills this has been very useful as a lot of my modules for my final year at uni have assessments through giving presentations.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was always chatting in the cantine area and everyone had catch ups in the morning before cracking on with work. It was a fairly relaxed atmosphere where you never felt very stressed and if you ever did there was usually someone by who would fetch you a cup of tea!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I knew what I was doing from day one and the office I was working in kept our calendars up to date.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The three day induction programme was not only great fun and a good chance to meet like-minded people but it was invaluable for getting to know the ins and outs of EY. We then had an induction day once we'd reached our offices which was also very useful for learning technicalities such as the phone system.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think EY try and employ 90% of their interns in graduate scheme which is obviously very attractive.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Because we were a small team of interns it was easy to organise nights out. Obviously some colleagues were more keen than others, but the offer was always there to do something on a Friday night.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Cambridge doesn't have that many great clubs but having lived there all my life I'm very used to it.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not many that I know of.

    2/5
