The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Lloyds Banking Group. I was working in Group Corporate Treasury in London and learnt a lot. I was placed in the Regulatory Liquidity Reporting team which sounds a bit technical, but I received so much coaching and help that it was really great. I would really recommend it.
I felt really valued by my colleagues, they made me feel as part of the team right from the beginning and i got given interesting and valuable work right from the start. It was not as though the intern was only supposed to get coffee for the team. I felt as though I was actually delivering a valuable service.
The guidance i got form both my line manager and my team in vernal was very helpful. They would always help if I had any questions which was really helpful to me. i never had to feel ashamed if i did not know anything because they would always quickly point me to the right resources or sit my down to explain the concepts behind a task.
I certainly never felt bored, but I was also not overworked. I think it was just about the ideal amount of time. I was running the daily process for the Liquidity Reporting team which took about 5-6 hours every day and for the rest of the day I had time to do some independent research, look into some of our daily processes and find ways to improve them.
I think I was given quite a lot of responsibility right from the beginning, I started submitting reports to senior stakeholders and the regulators from about week 3 of my placement. I think I got really lucky there because my team was so supportive even if i made a mistake from time to time.
I think my work at LBG helped me realise what I want to do in my future line of work in a better way. I also really improved on my time management because of the internship. Working in a fast paced environment with strict deadlines really helped wonders to improve my ability to focus on the relevant things.
The Company
The atmosphere was really good, there was a lot of collaboration between the teams and everyone was always approachable even the more senior staff. There were also some great parties and a good focus on sustainability and charity work which I really enjoyed. My team in particular had really positive work vibes.
I think it was set up pretty well. I did not particularly like HR, but the rest really made up for it. My stream itself was really well organised, so once I got the offer and was able to talk to my Line Manager everything went really well. I would wish for a few more networking events though. I really liked the fact that LBG provided accommodation.
A lot. I got a lot of feedback from my Line Manager and other senior people in the department which i found really valuable. They would always be constructive in their criticism and tell me how I could do better as well which I found really positive. Overall, I really did feel invested in and valued.

The Culture
London is quite expensive, however Lloyds Banking Group provided their interns with accommodation in Central London which I found pretty amazing. That was really helpful because it showed how much they wanted us to enjoy our time and it really took a load off me in terms of funding. Food and especially eating out and going for drinks were expensive though.
I think the nightlife was fine. I honestly didn't have the energy to o clubbing too much, however there were lots of pubs around to go for a pint after work, which i did quite often with my colleagues or my fellow interns. Central London is not the worst sport to be in in terms of night life
Lots of chances to do volunteering
