The Role
Redgate is an amazing environment to work in; my internship was thoroughly enjoyable and I would recommend to anyone looking to pursue a career in software engineering to give Redgate a try.
I was completely valued by my team. I was involved in important meetings where I would be asked for input on my thoughts on future direction for the product, and throughout I would be assigned to peer review other code.
I would always get more than satisfactory detailed explanations on absolutely anything, as long as I asked for help.
I would always have tasks to work on, but sometimes get stuck in the completion of them. This was fine insofar as everyone is willing to help you out if you're having trouble, but after asking for help many times over I would feel slightly bad for distracting my colleagues from their work too. Don't do this! After talking it over with my manager, he explained that only the teams who request to have interns are the ones you will work with, and thus they are prepared to get slightly less work done to help you get up to speed.
I was given medium stream tasks and tasks that were blockers for deals with customers, so a lot of responsibility!
I learnt a lot with respect to software engineering at industry standard level, which you don't really get taught much about in a Computer Science degree.
The Company
Very fun, friendly and relaxed, but people still managed to get great work done.
The organisation was great!
You are given 10% of your working hours each week to spend on learning things that aren't directly related to your work tasks to improve your engineering skills. A coding retreat day was also set up which was very useful and informative.

Redgate gave me a very tempting job offer for when I graduate.
The Culture
Weekly pub trips and a feel-good fund for the interns to have social outings throughout the summer made for a great social scene.
Cambridge is as expensive as London.
Lots of nice pubs in Cambridge, but not much else in the way of nightlife.
Lots of sporting activities are available.
