The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my work placement at DHL, I learnt a great deal and had many good experiences both with other undergraduates and my colleagues on site
I definitely felt highly valued as one of the colleagues and not just an extra "helper", the responsibility I was given gave me high value in the company.
DHL offer the best possible support through onsite managers, graduate talent managers, other graduates and mentors. There was also a lot of help in direction for future career choices.
In my role it differed week on week but I could be doing unlimited overtime hours one week and a quiet week the next depending on jobs.
At times it was crucial that my tasks were completed daily or the operation would come to a halt. I had many meeting with high level management and a lot of responsibility was given to me quickly.
After my placement I was a lot more engaged in my studies. I wrote my dissertation on a project I had studied on placement and won an award for it.
The Company
Fantastic. They were all very welcoming and I even went on a few stag do's/holidays. It was a great environment to work in with lots of engagement from everyone, it was sad to leave.
DHL do a lot of training on and off site to assist developement. They are very organised with weekly/monthly reporting to line managers.
They invested a lot in me with multiple training days and guiding me in my chosen career path.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I am currently on the graduate scheme and will have a fulltime job in the future.
The Culture
Christmas parties, meet ups, training days with other placement students. Still friends with a lot of them now
Cheap area, £400 rent and only 1 and a half hours from home so it was comfortable living
Industrial areas are never great for nightlife but I wasn't far from Liverpool or home so it was fine.
I joined a football team and gym, lots to do it was just whether you wanted to get involved.
