About You
I really enjoyed the placement at Numora. It was a really great personal development opportunity, where I had the chance to improve a number of key employability skills. It is an amazing opportunity to network and meet new people- I had the chance to meet lots of interesting people, which was really enjoyable. Overall, a great insight!
I felt valued throughout my time at Numora. We received a really warm welcome by the recruitment team when we arrived at the offices and all the employees we met were friendly and seemed to be genuinely interested in us. The graduates took time out of their day to speak to us and we had a really good Q&A session with Nomura employees.
I felt that I received a lot of support during the insight. Before we joined, the recruitment team was on hand to answer any questions and provided us with a detailed breakdown of what to expect during the week. Someone always accompanied us from Nomura so we could turn to him or her with questions and queries.
The skills I learnt will undoubtedly help me with my studies and beyond. I developed my knowledge and understanding of the financial sector which will help me with my degree course. I also developed a number of transferrable skills such as networking, communication and presentation skills. This will aid me in any future career.
The Company
I found the insight week at Nomura to be very well structured. Before hand, we had lots of communication from the recruitment team so we knew what was happening. Once we arrived, we had a good introduction session and all the sessions throughout the week were well planned. They were tailored to our needs and knowledge as university students. I found the sessions to be really beneficial.
There was a really great general atmosphere throughout the insight. I found the employees at Nomura to be really friendly and welcoming. There was a goo general feel within the office. There was a good bond amongst the interns and we all had a good laugh throughout the week. We went for drinks a couple of time after work which was nice.
It was clear to see how much resource Numora had invested in this programme. All the sessions were tailored to develop our skills and were focused on our personal development. We had numerous different sessions ranging from presentation skills sessions, data analytics and interview skills. The sessions were very useful for personal development.
I found the insight useful for understanding what it would be like to have a full time role at Numora. We had lots of Q&A sessions with employees who provided a good overview of what it is like to work at the bank. We also had lunch sessions with the graduates, which I found to be useful.
The insight was good in helping to understand the company culture better. Numora has quite a unique culture due to its Asian heritage which does make it slightly less 'aggressive' in its approach in comparison to other investment banks. I found there to be more of a focus on maintaining a healthy work life balance.
The content of the day was very useful for helping to determine a future career path. I gained a better understanding of how an investment bank operates and more about the different departments that make up the bank. I liked that the sessions and information was tailored to our level and was easy to understand. The insight has solidified my intention to pursue a career in investment banking.
Everything Else
My travel costs were reimbursed quickly and effectively.
There were endless opportunities to network and we were actively encouraged to do so. We had a number of formal networking sessions, where we had the opportunity to meet with more senior members of staff. This was insightful for understanding how they have succeeded in their career. We also had some more informal networking sessions with junior employees and graduates.
The networking events were really good. I found them to be well organised and informative.
There were no specific sessions on this, but I got an understanding of activities outside of work by talking to different employees. There are opportunities for employees to get involved in charity and sporting events.
I would absolutely recommend this insight to a friend!
